Remember when Alisha had a tumblr and she updated it? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Okay — maybe Pepperidge farm doesn’t actually remembers. The fact is this. USMNT — baller. Y’all are awesome. Thank you for making today awesome.

So, this was a fun exercise during this morning’s workout — what do I want in a partner:
I want a man who likes to laugh at silly things he finds on the internet and has interesting, original ideas and views about the state of the world. I want a man who wouldn’t mind if I wanted to stay in and play video games or watch a movie. But, he should also enjoy being active. He would...
It’s a beautiful spring day in DC. After heading to Pentagon City to pick up my packet for tomorrow’s race, I hopped over to the National Geographic Museum to see Tavis Smiley’s America I Am Exhibit. If you find yourself in DC between now and June, I recommend checking it out even though the exhibit felt a bit short, and I felt like there were some serious gaps in the story....
AFRO-American Archives →
Google teamed up with one of the oldest, family-owned African-American newspapers in the country and the result is an incredible archived database. Things that I’ve searched for so far:
-1936 Olympics (which lead me to a piece about Jesse Owens reaction to being snubbed by the Hitler and Roosevelt)
-Marion Anderson concert on the Lincoln Memorial (a few very cool pieces about reactions...
For the last couple of days, I’ve tried to figure out how to be a better person. But, then I go and do something that doesn’t help me reach that goal. Maybe it isn’t terrible to want to be alone for a bit and not answer your phone (or the door) because it’s easier than saying, “I don’t want to pretend like I want to hang out with you right now because all I...

I did a pretty good job today of channeling my teen angst into productive energy (a really fast 4 mile run, grocery shopping, vegetable chopping, and finally figuring out why Georgetown MPP would be a really good fit). And, then I learned a very important lesson:
It is not a good idea to watch all of the scenes when the Losties reconnect with their island loves (and Michael Giacchino is rocking...
Making a resolution to use Tumblr or journal privately. For now this seems okay.
Task list 1/29-1/30:
Clean all the things
Run 8 miles
Research Georgetown MPP and think about why it would be a good fit/why you want to pursue the degree
Make grocery list/go grocery shopping
Read (The Economist is starting to pile up and I just downloaded a new book for my Nook)
Finish analysis tasks for...
The House GOP's Plan to Redefine Rape →

Seriously? I don’t even have words for this. Part of me wants to curl into a ball under my bed and never come out, but I think I’m going to turn my anger into an eloquent letter to Congress about the absurdity of this proposed...

Lesson learned:
Ravioli and broccoli for dinner BEFORE a practice 5K at your new race pace does not make for a good run or a happy body.

I had a series of very strange dreams last night, the most vivid of which involved my wedding. There weren’t any details beyond a dress, a wedding party, and my father walking me down the aisle. Oy.
Are They Really 'Rapin' Everybody Out Here'? →
I’m also part of the group of people who was amused by the video — not because of the rape, but because of Antoine’s character. (I was also kind of embarrased for my people because Antoine confirms so many stereotypes. But, that’s another story…)
Terrell’s entire peice rings true: we sensationalized Antoine (and probably bought the iTunes single) and...
I’m in the process of rethinking how I want to navigate the world and still trying to figure out exactly who I am. In terms of the navigating part, I decided that the best thing to do is to come up with a list of rules to live by. So far I’ve come up with the following:
-Don’t do anything stupid…like getting yourself killed.
- No matter what, be bold. Fearless even....

Useless trivia…except the small chance that it’ll come up at pub quiz:
Violet Jessop served was a stewardess on the RMS Titanic and her sister ships: the RMS Olympic and the HMHS Brittanic. While the Olympic didn’t sink, it collided with a British warship and had to return to Southampton. It’s kind of bad ass that she survived all three disasters, but you have to wonder...
Many States Adopt National Standards for Their... →
This is a step in the right direction. But two things:
1. History and Literature standards are a touchy subject. While it’s perfectly fine to say that a student must be familiar with the American Constitution and know how to analyze an author’s work, it’s not okay to tell states that students must understand X interpretation of history or read Y authors (well, maybe there are...

Americans don’t fear black men. Americans fear poor black men. We seem to worship LeBron and cry rivers of tears when he abandons us.

“Financial Abortion” screams, “It’s cool. You can go out, have unprotected sex, get a girl pregnant, and not have to deal with the responsibility because you don’t want to.”

Joe Barton Would Like to Apologize to:
Koman Coulibaly, referee of the USA - Slovenia World Cup match, for having to award any points to the USA at all. Obviously, scoring three goals was a shakedown on our part. I regret that you had to count two of them.
http://joebartonwouldliketoapologize.com/ is going to become my favorite toy.
Lots of over thinking, lots of worrying, lots of freaking out — and then vindication from reading online “If he didn’t want you to call, he wouldn’t give you his number.”
I love dating and dealing with the opposite sex are the only two areas of my life where I feel completely stupid.
Black Women See Fewer Black Men at the Alter →
I’ve been reading articles like this since about the time that Hannah Bruckner (a Yale sociologist and one of my former professors) released her research about low marriage rates for highly educated black women. I’m kind of tired of this body of work, honestly, mostly because I keep worrying that I’m going to have my PhD and nothing else. Well, maybe a dog because dogs love you...

Pakistan and Times Sq. - So, basically, Mr. Kristof is arguing that if you want to fix Pakistan’s terror network (and its exports), you have to fix its failing education system. Now, I like fixing education as much as the next aspring doctoral student. But, sorry dude, I think your counterterrorism strategy is flawed. A lot of the comments highlight this but the simple fact that many...
In a burst of motivation, I finally wrote a draft of a personal statement for grad school. Now I have some five or six months to revise it. Also…the GRE scores for Penn GSE don’t seem particularly high. Is the test actually that hard?
Oh…and when did I get so old and boring? I used to be a fun twenty-something. I think I need to start raging on random weekday nights again. ...

OKCupid = still a hilarious experiment.
The best part of it is that I get to bring back old IM platforms that I used to use in high school (AIM, yahoo) because no one seems to use gmail/gchat. Of course, these conversations are entirely awkward because I still don’t know how to chat on the interwebs unless I’m telling a friend something utterly hilarious and then scurrying off gchat.
Bit of a crazy week so far, and I’ve never felt so restless.
And, I caved and am trying out a dating website. Found one person who might be interesting and sent him a message. This is kind of silly, but I at least hope to get a good story out of this whole thing. I think I want to write a blog about dating in DC. Except how I don’t want it to be obnoxious.
